New Bed!

Here's a photo of the antique bed frame that I got from our Church Yard Sale last weekend. My 9 yr old had been sleeping in a twin bed that we'd picked up at a mattress dealer about 5 years ago. It was a crappy mattress and he always complained about it. When I was volunteering at the yard sale last weekend, I spotted this bed that just seemed to have mysteriously "showed up" since I'd been there since 6 a.m. setting up. I quickly asked a friend how much it was selling for and she said "I don't know, just give them $20". I quickly called my husband who ran down with the truck and loaded it up. Of course, since the bed frame was a full-size, we had to go out this weekend and buy a new mattress set. I scoured the ads and found a Serta set that was being sold up on Post (saved 8% sales tax there) so we headed for them on Saturday morning. The $349 set they advertised wasn't there and the truck wasn't coming until Wednesday. My 9 yr. old burst into tears and then I told my DH we'd just drive around and find a set at another store - he nearly broke into tears! She asked why I wanted that set, and I said basically price. She found a $749 set that they had in stock and she sold it to us for $449! The only thing I didn't realize was how FAT the mattress is! Look at how high this bed sits!! It certainly fills up his room but he LOVES it and it is so comfortable. I know he'll be sleeping on this mattress for years to come...and I saved $300 and didn't have to drag the family all over town looking for a mattress set!! The bed frame is GORGEOUS and I feel so guilty for getting it for only $20 that I put extra in the collection plate now.

Snowman Destruction

Destruction of a snowman....

The snow did not last long here - temps up in the mid 40's this afternoon with plenty of sunshine. It was fun while it lasted!! Mother Nature can send some more but wish she would do it on a Sunday evening or work night!! :)

Another "Storm"...

We received about 4" of wet snow last night. Luckily it didn't stick to the roads much and by late morning the roads were basically dry. I do LOVE having a garage for the cards in the new house - no scraping car windows to remove snow/frost!! We had some fun utilizing the scraps from the pine trees to create our snowman friend. Didn't realize how much "work" it is building a snowman -- don't remember that from my more youthful days.

Bathroom Redo - COMPLETE!

The color I chose for the bathroom is "Urban Sunrise" from Valspar. I wasn't sure I'd like it at first, but after that ugly builder's flat vanilla color - nothing could really have been worse! I put new polished nickel switch plate & electrical cover in too.

Another addition was the floating glass shelf (tempered and safe for a bathroom) above the toilet. Since there isn't any storage space around the sink. I needed something other than the back of the toilet for stuff.

The shower curtain is from Target. I spent 8+ years in the printing business and LOVE the look and shape of individual letters. I loved the graphic nature of this curtain and it was my inspiration piece.

Behind the bathoom door is this weird storage space. I don't know what to really do w/it. The previous owners already had the Closet Maid storage in there. The "box" thing that's attached to the walls is the return air duct for the heating/cooling system. This space can't be seen unless you are in the bathroom with the door shut. I wish I knew someone who could make me some nice wooden shelves to put in there -- nicer than the wire Closet Maid stuff.

So that's my bathroom redo. Took me all weekend but I love the way it came out. Tomorrow I can go back to work and catch up on some rest!! :)

Weekend Project....Bathroom

When we bought the new house back in October, the previous owners pretty much had builder-neutral colors on the walls -- or they had picked colors that were neutral that I loved! This bathroom, between two bedrooms, is painted in builder's flat off-yellowish-gross-tanish-white. It was okay - and I even attempted to spend an entire $13.00 on a WalMart shower curtain that would make do.

I've decided that this is the 1st room that I'm going to do my re-do on! I've got the paint, the new shower curtain, a bath rug, and a shelf. I've got a lot to accomplish in two days! :)

My altered art blog fell by the wayside when I went back to work full-time over a year ago. I miss the art - and my altered-art friends - but don't feel that altered-art fits my life at this point....

I'm a nearly 50 yr. old w/an 8 yr. old and have NO time for a life outside of work and multiplication/division homework....

I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease over 6 mos. ago....

I have a very creative side that has laid dormant for TOOO long!

Bought my "DREAM" home in October but have a budget that would barely furnish a single-wide...

Am very fortunate to have a few close friends that I can count on two hands that have stuck w/me through thick and thin (and ups and downs)...

I'm going to try and blog my life this year - as much as reasonable - through this medium....

here's to tryin'!
